Death Note The Musical London Premiere
For a special two night event this August, Frank Wildhorn’s critically acclaimed Death Note The Musical will have its first English premiere at the London Palladium Theatre.
Nick Winston will direct and choreograph. Casting will be announced at a later date.
Based on the best-selling Japanese manga series by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, the musical has a score by Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, Dracula, Bonnie and Clyde), lyrics by Jack Murphy, and a book by Ivan Menchell.
Death Note follows Tokyo high school student Light Yagami, who comes across a discarded notebook owned by Ryuk, a mythological god of death. Discovering he can kill anyone by writing their names in the notebook, Light takes justice into his own hands by filling the notebook with names of the most wanted criminals. But a detective known as “L” is tracking him down.
The creative team also includes associate director and choreographer Alex Sarmiento, costume designer Kimie Nakano, musical supervisor Katy Richardson, musical director Chris Ma, orchestrator Jason Howland, designer Justin Williams, lighting designer Ben Cracknell, sound designer Ben Harrison, and casting director Harry Blumenau.
Carter Dixon McGill Production and Indie Theatrical produce. Tickets will go on sale June 2 at LWTheatres.co.uk.
Fun Fact: In 2017, Netflix released a TV adaptation of the Death Note manga starring Willem Defoe.
